Atkins
Rosa Mae Snider Atkins, 96, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Frances Marion Manner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Corbett Atkins, and her daughter, Eleanor Pauline Voss.
Survivors include three nieces, Doris Parks and husband, Howard, Betty Jo Campbell and husband, Leroy, all of Atkins, and Frances Wyatt of Meadowview; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Monday afternoon, July 16, 2007, at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus. The Rev. Neville Mozingo officiated the ceremony.

Blevins
James Delmer Blevins, 70, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at his home in Damascus.
He was born April 2, 1937, in Grayson County to the late Albert and Hattie Moore Blevins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, R.C. Blevins. He was a skilled carpenter and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Dorothy Gail Blevins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Abdul Blevins and Crystal and Mitchell Meadows; one brother and sister-in-law, Ernie and Marion Blevins; a sister-in-law, Nancy Blevins; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, July 16, 2007, at the Bradley’s Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie. Pastor Jerry Heaton and Pastor Steve Burk officiated the ceremony. Interment followed in the Laurel Valley Cemetery in Konnarock. A reception was held at the Konnarock Community Center following the graveside services.

Hankla
John Walter Hankla Sr., 64, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Francis Marion Manor in Marion after a 2 ½-year-long courageous battle with small cell lung cancer.
He was a member of Joy Baptist Church. He was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Joppa, Md., to the late Charles Robert (Rusty) Hankla Sr. and Dolly Jane Childress Hankla. They moved permanently back to Chilhowie when he was about 10 years old and he attended school in Chilhowie. He was an auto body repair man and worked for several employers, among them Morgan-McClure Racing #4 car, before starting his own business, J & B Auto Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rusty and Dolly; brothers, Charles Robert Hankla Jr., Benjamin, Melvin Fields Hankla; sister, Nell June Hankla McVey; brothers-in-law, Paul Jackson, Jay Dunn, Edgar Casaday, Harold Roe Sr., Bobby Joe Walker, Wayne Stotler; nephews, Benny Roger Hankla; Dennis Dunn, Donald Roe; and grandparents, Walter Thomas Hankla, Minervia Jane Hankla, Mary Magaline Childress Bonn; and father in-law, William Clay Baumgardner.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Brenda Baumgardner Hankla of Seven Mile Ford; sons and daughters-in-law, John Walter Jr. and Wanda Hankla of Marion, Robert Clay and Christina Hankla and Mark Daniel and Rebecca Hankla, all of Seven Mile Ford; grandchildren, Dianna Kay Hankla, Robert Hunter Hankla, William Jared Hankla, Jordan Danielle Hankla, Stephanie Hall and husband, Ted, Shawn Berry and wife, Danielle, Carl Howard Berry Jr., Tyler Poston and Zachary Vannoy; great-grandchildren, Jacob Hall, Jaelyn Berry and Abbigail Berry; sisters and a brother-in-law, Senah Hankla Jackson of Darlington, Md., Lonis Hankla Dunn of Edgewood, Md., Jane Hankla Roe of Abingdon, Shirley Hankla and Tom Hutton of Marion and Pattie Hankla Stotler of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brother-in-law, Don McVey of Marion, and mother-in-law, Annie Clapp Baumgardner of Seven Mile Ford.
Funeral services were held Monday evening, July 2, 2007, at Williams Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Mark Totten, Gene Little and Dennis Eller officiated the ceremony. Graveside services were held Tuesday morning, July 3, 2007, at Westwood Memorial Gardens in Chilhowie.

Harrington
Carla Rivers Harrington, 44, of Abingdon died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was the daughter of Delmer and Thelma Harrington of Konnarock. She worked for 14 years at Johnston Memorial Hospital and four years at Smyth County Community Hospital.
In addition to her parents, survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Regina and Mark Parks of Abingdon; a special friend, Charles Puckett of Abingdon; one niece, Sarah Warden and husband, Terry, of Decatur, Ala.; one nephew, Jared Puckett of Culman, Ala.; a great-niece, Anna Warden; a great-nephew, Luke Warden; one step-niece, Leslie Parks; and one step-nephew, Carson Parks.
Funeral services were conducted Monday morning, July 16, 2007, at the graveside at Hutton-Cox Cemetery in Sugar Grove. Robert Blevins officiated the ceremony.

Harris
Larry Andrew Harris, 31, died Friday, July 13, 2007, at his home.
He was born in Smyth County to Larry Dale Harris and the late Virginia Woods Harris. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Gracie Harris and Peter and Sally Woods.
He was self-employed in the home remodeling business.
Survivors include his wife, Samantha Harris; three sons, Timothy Ray Harris of Saltville,
Daniel Henry Thompson Jr., and Michael Logan Weyant, both of Bland; two daughters, Mikayla Nicole Weyant and Karassia Lee Weyant, both of Bland; his father, Larry Dale Harris of Sugar Grove; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Zane Jeffery Quillen and Johnny Michael Quillen, both of Marion, James William and Lori Harris of Saltville, and Kindal Wade Williams of Sugar Grove; six sisters, Ginger Faye Quillen and Kathy Marie Pruitt, both of Marion, Ester Bonnie Quillen of Blountville, Tenn., Nancy Dale Armstrong of Saltville, Kimberly Ann Williams and Kelley Brooke Williams, both of Sugar Grove.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Birch officiating. Interment will follow in the Slemp Cemetery.

Horn
Randall Lee Horn, 50, died Friday, July 13, 2007, in Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn.
He attended Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was master of ceremonies for the Smyth County Jam at the Chilhowie Lions Club, was a lover of bluegrass music, participated in the Smyth County March of Dimes, and loved the outdoors and tearing down things and rebuilding them. Years ago, he was a member of the family band, Clover Leaf Bluegrass Band, in which he played the bass and sang.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis “Cissy” Horn of Marion; parents, Emery and Pauline Horn of Glade Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Mandi and Will Vanhoozer of Marion; two sons, Spc. William V. Horn and friend, Amanda, of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Ryan Lee Horn of Grand Blanc, Mich.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Larry and Lisa Horn of Fenton, Mich., and Kenneth Horn and friend, Carol, of Abingdon; one brother-in-law and “good buddy,” Bart Simons, of Marion; sister-in-law, “his sister,” Debbie Simons, of Wytheville; sister-in-law, Gina Ogle, and husband, Chris, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Desiree Blankenship, of Concord; one grandson, Tommy Vanhoozer; one niece Rachel Horn-Kidder; one nephew, Kyle Horn; special friend and physician, Dr. Handy; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, July 17, 2007, at Seaver-Brown Chapel. The Rev. Bob Surber officiated the ceremony. Burial followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

Kinkade
Christy Paul Kinkade, 88, died Monday, July 16, 2007.
He is the last surviving member of his family and was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and daughter-in-law, Lily Kinkade.
He was a member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church where he served as trustee, board chairman, treasurer, and teacher. He was a charter member of Rye Valley Ruritan Club, served one term on the Smyth County Board of Supervisors and was past chairman of Mt. Rogers District Planning Commission and the State Planning Commission. He was raised in Missouri and graduated from Truman University. He retired from Brunswick Corporation in 1981; and he enjoyed farming as a secondary career.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lucille Griffitts Kinkade of Sugar Grove; son, Richard Paul Kinkade of Taos, N.M.; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Charles Smith of Green Valley, Ariz.; granddaughters, Virginia Smith of Charlotte, N.C., and Katherine Smith of Oakland, Calif.; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Kinkade; and several, cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth United Methodist Church in Teas with the Rev. Mike Ward officiating. Private burial will follow.

Tolbert
Mary Ellen Tuggle Tolbert, 95, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, in the Priddy Manor assisted living facility.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Huey Tuggle; son, Robert H. Buchanan; daughter, Darlene B. Stanley; two grandsons, Jackie W. Cardwell and Bobby Buchanan, Jr.
She was a member of the Calvary Bible Church and a member of the Saltville senior citizens.
Survivors include one stepson, Charles Tuggle of Saltville; five granddaughters, Kim Sawyer and Stacy Cole, both of King, N.C., Vanessa Amo, Valerie Buchanan and Lynn Herring, all of Pasadena, Texas; step-grandchildren, Lorie Rice, Tammy Jones and Scott Tuggle; 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends and family, Ruby H. Warner and Wenoka Chapman.
Graveside services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, July 17, 2007, in the Mount Rose Cemetery. The Rev. Kenny Gilbert officiated the ceremony.

Widener
Willis C. Widener, 45, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at Wellmont Hospice House, in Bristol, Tenn.
He was born Dec. 5, 1961 to the late Harlow J. and Ruby Tilson Widener. He worked at Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Barnett’s Funeral Home. He was the founder of Red Bird Taxi Service and was a long-time member of the Marion Life Saving Crew.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Joshua Widener and Jonathan and Kelly Widener, all of Marion; one sister, Debbie Clark of Groseclose; three brothers, Jimmy Widener, Courtney Widener, and David Widener, all of Marion; one grandson, Calab; one granddaughter, Gracelin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church in Atkins with the Rev. Mike Sage and the Rev. Joe Powers officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Gardens in Atkins.
