Call
Rebecca Jean Call, 36, of Marion, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at the Wake Forrest Baptist University Hospital in Winston Salem, N.C.
She was born in Smyth County on Oct. 10, 1970, to the late Gene Raymond and Mary Byrd Greer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Lula Gray Call.
She had been employed at General Dynamics in Marion and was a loving wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Anthony Call; her children, Nicholas Andrew Call and Summer Nicole Call, both of the home; one brother, Steven Edward Greer of Glade Spring; one sister, Patricia Diane Pennington of Chilhowie; father-in-law, Andrew Jackson Call; special nephews, Cody Steven and Tyler Cole; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday evening, Aug. 18, 2007, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion. The Rev. Mark Totten officiated the services. A sunset interment was held in Grosses Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Harris
Lottie Mae Harris, 63, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at her home in Chilhowie.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Harris; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Kenny Compton of Saltville; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Becky Harris of Marion; two brothers, J.W. Oquinn of Ohio and Bobby Oquinn of Chilhowie; three sisters, Toni Puckett of Ohio, Mary Oquinn of Meadowview and Ruby Oquinn; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning, Aug. 21, 2007, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Oquinn officiated the services. Burial followed in the Mount Rose Cemetery.
The family received friends Monday evening, Aug. 20, 2007, at the funeral home.

Irvin
Mary Dare Noonkester Irvin, 73, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
She was born March 31, 1934 in Grayson County to the late Paul and Geneta Hash Noonkester. She was a member of Summit Baptist Church in Sugar Grove for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who dearly loved life, her family, her church family, and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James “Bill” Irvin of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Harold West of Eatonton, Ga.; two grandchildren, Chase West and wife, Danielle, and Chelsea West, all of Eatonton, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday evening, Aug. 21, 2007, at Seaver-Brown Chapel. The Rev. Don Tate officiated the services. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

James
Marie Testerman James, 80, of Flatridge died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Independence.
She was born March 29, 1927, at Flatridge to the late Ray and Ella Billings Testerman.
Survivors include her husband, Rush James, of the home; daughter, Rita Bryan and fiancé, Charles Ballard of Flatridge; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Melinda James of Flatridge; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Harold Cole of Independence; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Geraldine Testerman of Independence; three grandchildren and spouse, David and Amber Trent of Mount Airy, N.C., Colby James and Cydney James, both of Flatridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, in Reins-Sturdivant Chapel in Independence. Interment was held in Central Cemetery in Flatridge. The Rev. George Russell officiated the services.

Kestner
Deborah M. (Terry) Kestner, 44, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John and Clara Helton, and paternal grandparents, Ben and Hettie Terry.
She was a devoted wife and mother, was a 2002 graduate of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and was employed at Utility Trailer in Atkins.
Survivors include her husband, Charles “Butch” Kestner; daughter, Brooke Marie Kestner, who was her pride and joy; parents, James and Eula Terry of Saltville; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Jr. and Lisia Terry of Rich Valley, Christopher and Maryland Terry of Whitney, England, and Keith and Sabrina Terry of Max Meadows; mother-in-law, Rachel Kestner of Saltville; sister-in-law, Anne and husband, Dale Evans, of Saltville; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and special friends, Daphne McCready and Gail Henderson.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday evening, Aug. 18, 2007, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Wade Kestner and the Rev. Mark Casey officiated the services. Graveside services were conducted Sunday morning, Aug. 19, 2007, in the A.J. Aistrop family cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday evening, Aug. 18, 2007, at the funeral home prior to the service.

McKee
Mary Helen McConnell Copenhaver McKee, 94, of Kingsport, Tenn., died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at Asbury-Steadman Hill Assisted Living Campus.
She was born Feb. 28, 1913 in Scott County to the late Dr. Hiram K. McConnell and Mary L. Gray McConnell. She spent her childhood in Scott County, graduating from Shoemaker High School in 1931. She graduated from Virginia Intermont College in 1933 and attended Radford College and the University of Alabama. She graduated from Emory & Henry College, Emory, in 1935. She was a teacher in the Scott County school system from 1936-1941. She taught in Smyth County schools for 33 years, retiring in 1977.
She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Julian V. Copenhaver Sr. and Roy McKee; grandson, James Vawter Buis; and brother, Dr. Fred McConnell.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Julian V. Jr. and Barbara Copenhaver of Hendersonville, N.C.; her daughter, Mary Matilda Copenhaver Buis of Richmond; granddaughter, Kelly Anne Copenhaver, Bowling Green, Ky.; grandson, Captain John Errett Buis, USMC, and wife, Megan Stidham Buis, of Camp LeJeune, N.C.; sister-in-law, Anabel McConnell of Kingsport, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was conducted Saturday afternoon, Aug. 18, 2007, in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed the memorial services.

Irene Winters Morefield, 79, of Damascus, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a native of Damascus and was the daughter of the late Charles Henley Winters and Rebecca Michaels Winters. She was a member of the Damascus Church of Christ and was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Winters and Omar Winters; and one sister, Sophia Heath.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, David C. Morefield; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R. and Doris Morefield of Glade Spring, David G. Morefield and Wayne L. and Vickie Morefield, all of Damascus; one sister, Faye Thompson of Bristol, Tenn.; three grandchildren, David Wayne Morefield of Damascus, Bobby Lewis Blevins and Patricia Sue Smith, both of Glade Spring; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday morning, Aug. 20, 2007, at the graveside at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus. Bill Reece, minister, officiated the services.

Ralph Stephen Mullins, 47, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, in Marion.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, S.J. Mullins and Martha Mullins.
Survivors include his father, Ralph Mullins; his mother, Bonnie Sue Burkes Mullins; one brother, Michael David Mullins; two sisters, Mary Whitehall and Barbara Sue Mullins; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday morning, Aug. 19, 2007, at Bradley’s Funeral Home in Marion. Interment followed in Mullins Cemetery in Dickenson County.

Saundra Mullins, 66, of Abingdon died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, at her residence.
She was a native of Detroit, Mich., and had lived in Washington County since 1986. She attended Solid Rock Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Donald H. Mullins, five children, and 16 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at 6 p.m. at Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Hawkins officiating.

Studer
Mary Virginia “Ginger” Roane Studer, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, in Anaheim, Calif.
She was the daughter of Col. and Mrs. Thomas W. Roane. She was born in Boston Harbor, Mass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley P. Studer.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Warnke of Seal Beach, Calif.; one son, Thomas Wesley Studer of El Paso, Texas; one sister, Tommye Kelly of Marion; two grandchildren, Brendon Warnke of Lexington, Ky., and Jesse Warnke of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and one great-grandchild, Oliver Warnke of Lexington, Ky.
Services will be held at a later date in California.
