Nortwood top team

Northwood was the top team in a cross country meet held Wednesday afternoon at Rural Retreat Lake.
The Northwood girls’ team defeated Bland 27-49. The Northwood boys’ team also had the low score of 29 compared to Fort Chiswell with 69 and Bland County with 83. In addition to Rural Retreat, Fort Chiswell and Bland County, also competing in the meet were runners from Chilhowie.
The varsity course was 3.08 miles. It was cut back from 3.25 miles on an earlier meet at Rural Retreat Lake. “I think everyone was very exciting about the new course,” said Rural Retreat Cross Country Coach Marty Hadaway. The coach expressed his appreciation to everyone who helped out with the meet. He said his team’s next meet is today in the Marine Corps mud course held in Salem.
The top female finisher was Hannah Hadaway of Rural Retreat. The top male finisher was Alex Bresnock of Northwood.
