Tristen Lane Blair is Wythe County’s newest resident. He entered the world at 3:54 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, at Wythe County Community Hospital.
“Both our other sons were born here and I work here,” noted registered nurse Chasity C. Blair of new son. “I know everybody and it’s just a good place to have him.”
Mrs. Blair and her husband, Timothy, live in Ivanhoe. Their other sons are Hunter Blair, 10, and Nolan Blair, 6.
Timothy Blair is employed by Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp. in Dublin. Mrs. Blair is a registered nurse for the night shift on the surgical floor at Wythe County Community Hospital.
Tristen Blair was not due to be born until this Sunday, Jan. 4. His mother went into labor at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1.
Dr. Elizabeth Fox delivered Tristen just before 4 a.m. Friday. The baby weighed 7 lbs., 2.9 oz. and was 21 inches long.
“Nolen wanted a sister but I wanted a brother,” commented Hunter Blair, who attends Sheffey Elementary School with his brother, Nolan.
Their maternal grandparents are Roger and Elva Crigger of the Stringtown community. Paternal grandparents are Tim and Katerina Blair of Ivanhoe.
To honor its first baby of the new year, the hospital presented the Blairs with a huge laundry basket filled with gifts. Included were a case of diapers, a baby monitor, disposable camera, sleep shirts, bibs, crib sheets, toiletry items and a gift certificate for dinner at a local restaurant.
A hand-carved wooden rattle was another special gift. It was created especially for the first baby of the year by Copenhaver Woodworks.
“Wythe County Community Hospital is pleased and honored to present the new baby of the year with these gifts,” said Barbara Patton, director of marketing and community education at WCCH.
Mother and baby were scheduled to go home Saturday.
