The last two weeks have been eventful for Chris Mobley.
The former Dobyns-Bennett High School star has pitched for three different teams in the Florida Marlins’ minor league system in the last 14 days.
The right-hander has seen time on the mound with the High Class A Jupiter (Fla.) Hammerheads, Class AA Carolina Mudcats and the Class AAA Albuquerque Isotopes during that time.
After spending most of the season with Jupiter, Mobley made a brief stint with the Isotopes, pitching three innings of relief.
He was then assigned to Carolina, where he spent all of last season.
This spring, Mobley is 0-0 with no saves and a 2.67 ERA between his three stops.
Barker’s Bat
Kevin Barker has connected for four home runs and driven in 34 runs for the Class AAA Syracuse (N.Y.) Chiefs. The bad news for the Virginia High graduate is he has posted just a .218 batting average through 51 games.
Owens Struggling
Jeremy Owens (Science Hill) went 0-for-4 on Friday night for the Class AAA Durham Bulls and saw his batting average dip to .205.
More on Moore
Former East Tennessee State University standout Caleb Moore is hitting .229 with seven RBIs for the High Class A Fort Myers Miracle.
He tallied two hits for the Miracle on Thursday in a game against Sarasota.
Wagner Still Rolling
New York Mets closer Billy Wagner continues to mow down the opposition. The former Tazewell High School star earned his 13th save of the season on Thursday in the Mets’ victory over the San Francisco Giants.
It was his 31st consecutive save, establishing a new franchise record. The streak dates back to last season for Wagner, who has a 1.50 ERA this season and has allowed just four earned runs in 24 innings of work.
“I’m not going to take credit for that, because honestly I’ve had a lot of good plays behind me,“ Wagner recently told the New York Post. “When you have these [streaks] there’s a lot of luck involved.“
