Maroons top Cavaliers

George Wythe, behind the rushing attack led by Larry McCoy defeated the Holston Cavaliers 42-0 in a Hogoheegee District game played Friday night in Damascus.
The Maroons struck quickly after forcing Holston to punt.  In two plays George Wythe covered 47 yards to strike pay dirt.  McCoy scampered 21 yards for the first score.
On the very next possession, after forcing a turnover, Brandon Davis was on the receiving end of a 38 yard pass from quarterback Jacob Sharitz to make the score 14-0 after the first period of play.
The onslaught continued in the second period with the Maroons adding three more touchdowns with a dominating ground game that outgained Holston in total offense in the by a margin of 246-50.
The scoring plays came from a three-yard run by fullback Devon Smith, a 14-yard pass from Sharitz to Brandon Atwell and a 4-yard run from McCoy to make the score 35-0 at halftime.
McCoy led the offensive ground attack for George Wythe with 109 yards rushing and two scores.
In the second half Seth White capped off the scoring with a 8-yard run to make the final score 42-0.
Next up for the Maroons (6-1, 2-0) will be Wythe County and Hogoheegee rival the Rural Retreat Indians (6-1, 2-0) at George Wythe.  Holston (5-3, 1-3) will travel to battle the Chilhowie Warriors (6-1, 2-0).
