After being released on bond from the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail, a Virginia Beach resident decided to make his way back home.
On a golf cart.
According to a Washington County Sheriff’s Office press release, A 2:30 a.m. (that’s morning) call came in in reference to a golf cart rolling down the northbound lane of I-81 (yes, that’s Interstate 81) with Ryan Daniel Montgomery behind the wheel.
The day prior, Montgomery had been arrested on a marijuana possession charge and was released on a $2,500 bond.
“Apparently, the accused left the Regional Jail, walked to the Exit 19 area and stole the golf cart,” said Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman. “He then traveled approximately two miles before being apprehended.”
According to the release, Montgomery was arrested, charged with grand larceny and, as the press release puts it, “carted off” to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail, where he is currently being held under a $2,500 secured bond.
In the release, Newman offers a simple answer for Montgomery’s stunt: “He was trying to make his way home – to Virginia Beach!”
