While landscaping workers were getting the outside of the Jessie Peterman Library spruced up this week, employees and volunteers were working to prepare the interior of the new building for a soft opening this Friday, May 2.
The library has been closed since April 14 so that books could be placed on new shelves and other tasks done. Finishing touches continue to be made on the new addition and the newly renovated older section of the building. Diana Pumphrey, one of the branch supervisors, said volunteer help “has been wonderful” and has enabled the process to move along quicker. The new library will include a computer room that will initially hold 12 computers, an internet cafe with coffee and hook-up for laptops, and other features.
The library will have a grand opening on the evening of June 12.
The landscaping project outdoors has been a community project. Pam Cadmus, owner of Specialty Garden Design and former librarian at the Jessie Peterman Library, designed the landscape, contact all potential donors, picked up materials and organized the installation. All work has been volunteer, and all materials have been donated.
Altogether, eight trees, 50 shrubs, and 70 perennials are being added to the landscaping at the library. Nursery donations have come from Salughters’ Garden Center, Pine Ridge, Yagle Nursery, Mountain Springs Nursery, Wildwood Farms, Willow Springs, Millbrook Landscaping, Riverbend, Beegle Landscaping, Rifton Farm & Nursery, Hollybrook Mulch, LiPa Nurseries, and Specialty Garden Designs.
Helping to get the trees, plants, and flowers placed on the property are Specialty Garden Designs, Beegle Landscaping, and volunteers.
