Lady Buffaloes fall to Demons

The Floyd County varsity volleyball team dropped the season opener to Christiansburg at Floyd Thursday, Aug. 21.
The Group AA Blue Demons won three of four games to take the match 3-1. The even numbered matches went down to the wire, while each team won an odd numbered match by double digit margins.
Game scores were Christiansburg 25-Floyd County 14, Christiansburg 25-Floyd County 23, Floyd County 25-Christiansburg 15, and Christiansburg 25-Floyd County 22.
In the opening game, Christiansburg was in a tight 6-5 contest early, but pulled ahead 17-11 by the end of the first service rotation.
The Demons got six points on their seventh serve to push the margin to 23-13.
In the second game, the Buffaloes opened up a 15-9 lead on four service points from Vanessa Quesenberry.
But Christiansburg rallied for an 18-18 tie. The game was tied at 20-20 before the Demons pulled away for the win.
Floyd County came back to win the third game and trim the match score to 2-1.
Vanessa Quesenberry had seven service points as the Buffaloes opened a 15-11 lead.
Floyd upped the lead to 18-12. Idalina Walker served game point.
Christiansburg clinched the match in the fourth game. The Demons led 14-10 midway through the game and pulled away to win the game and match.
In the preliminary match up of junior varsity squads, Christiansburg prevailed by a 2-0 score.
Game scores were Christiansburg 25-Floyd County 16 in the opening game and Christiansburg 25-Floyd County 15 in the second game.
In the opener, the Demons built a big lead early, going up 8-1 and 16-3. The lead was 19-6 before the Buffaloes rallied to get the final margin under double digits.
The second match was tied four times. After 1-1 and 2-2 ties, the Buffaloes went ahead 4-3 and 6-4.
The Blue Demons rallied to tie at 7-7 and 8-8.
On the second service rotation, Christiansburg began to pull away, opening a 22-14 lead at the 11th service rotation.
The Buffaloes were to play James River at home on Tuesday.
Non-district scheduling continues, as Floyd plays Carroll County tonight (Thursday) in Hillsville.
