The boys’ jayvee basketball team closed out the season with a 44-35 win over Eastern Montgomery at Floyd Friday, February 8. The Buffs started the game with a 10-0 run.
Woodrow Underwood scored off the opening tip, Cole Peters drove the court for a basket, Chandler Jones scored off a turnover, Peters scored in the post and Jones scored off a steal.
Adam Sisson got consecutive baskets for the Mustangs. Floyd closed out the quarter on a 11-1 run. Matt Hollandsworth got a rebound basket, Peters made two free throws, Brian Thomas hit a three, and Jones got a pair of lay ups, the last one with five seconds left, to put Floyd up 21-5.
Tyler Carr got the only second quarter points on a jumper and two free throws. The Buffs led 25-13 at the half.
A 15-8 third quarter put Floyd ahead 40-21. Jones made a free throw, Peters converted a fast break, Carr hit a three, Jeffrey Burnette scored on a fast break, Thomas hit a jumper and a three pointer, and Hollandsworth got a stick back for a 19 point lead.
In the fourth quarter Peters made a free throw and Joey Conduff converted a three point play for the Buffalo scoring.
Eastern Montgomery: Sisson 17, Deare 5, Milovich 1, Blankenship 2, Linkous 8, McNew 2
Floyd: Peters 9, Jones 9, Hollandsworth 4, Burnette 2, Underwood 2, Thomas 8, Carr 7, Conduff 3
Floyd lost 43-39 at Glenvar Wednesday, February 6. The Buffaloes went up 12-10 in the first as Chandler Jones had two field goals and two free throws, Cole Peters had a field goal and two free throws, and Tyler Carr had a field goal.
Joey Conduff had the only basket in a 13-2 second quarter that put the Highlanders up 23-14 at the half.
In the third quarter, Jones and Carr had field goals as Glenvar upped the lead to 30-18.
Brian Thomas had a pair of three pointers, Peters had two free throws, and Matt Hollandsworth had one for the fourth quarter scoring.
