Indians top Lady Maroons

Chilhowie led throughout in beating George Wythe 59-44 Friday at Marion in a playoff between the teams that tied for first place in the Hogoheegee District girls’ basketball standings.
The Lady Warriors used aggressive defense to create turnovers and received four three-pointers from senior Emily Doane, who totaled a team-high 22 points.
Junior Ashley Buckhannon tallied a game-high 26 points for the Maroons, but the Warriors held GW post player Lacey Price to four points. Price had a big game when the Maroons beat the Warriors in their meeting at GW.
With the victory, Chilhowie earned the top seed for this week’s district tournament.
The Warriors displayed good teamwork Friday while the Maroons did not have a good outing.
Sophomore guard Krystal Patton again had a good game for the Warriors against GW, and senior post player Hillary Overbay had a nice third-quarter stretch in which she scored two baskets and drew two charges.
The Maroons trimmed a 15-point deficit to nine points in the third quarter, but Doane drilled two three-pointers early in the fourth as the advantage grew to as much as 56-37.
