GROWING UP: News from the Abingdon Farmers Market

Washington County News: News >
Wed Aug 06, 2008 - 08:21 AM

Have you been by the market recently and noticed Dana Hollifield’s booth, Custom Chainsaw Creations?  Dana has an amazing talent in making beautiful pieces of art out of ordinary logs.  He has been selling at the market only a few short months and has already sold numerous pieces of his work to local folks.  This week, Dana has offered to show us how he creates such beautiful art pieces.  He will be demonstrating his craft at the market from 9 am until noon this Saturday.  Come by and check out this artist in action!
Our winner of the AFM tote bag last week was Jean G. Farmer of Columbus, OH!  Her tote bag was filled with AFM goodies including greeting cards from David and Debbi Alexander, Garlic pepper relish from Grand View Farm, strawberry jam from Joan’s Daily Bread, tomato-basil soap from Diva Triva’s, local honey from Pap Wilson’s farm, a custom cutting board from the Ault Farm, a sea shell carving from Custom Chainsaw Creations, a fabric bowl from Land of Sweet Simplicity, local apples from the Ralph Vanover Farm, a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Blaithin Blair Fresh Flowers, a gift basket from Kelli Mehl’s bakery, and oatmeal soap from Camille.  Jean was visiting Abingdon with her best friend, Donna Hamra, from Charleston, WV for Donna’s birthday (and actually gave the tote bag to Donna for her birthday).  What a great present!  Look for more great give-a-ways like this as the market prepares for more events!
And don’t forget; look for “Music at the Market” every Tuesday from 4ish to 7 pm.  EVERYONE is welcome to come out to the market pavilion and pick the instrument of your choice!  We have numerous musicians interested in a weekly informal jam session so bring a chair and come out and join us to show off your talents, learn from others, or just enjoy the music of some of our local townsfolk!

The Abingdon Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 7:00 am to 12:00 noon and Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.  For the absolute best in fresh produce, go to the source, our local farmers.
