FNB is beginning to prepare its building site in Floyd for a new branch, and plans are to break ground for construction September 21, bank personnel told the Press in a phone interview Tuesday.
Bill Heath, president and CEO of FNB Corporation, said he expects construction to take six or seven months.
The branch will be located next door to the Oddfellows/Rebekah Lodge on East Main Street. The bank had originally hoped to put up a temporary branch on the Lodge property while the permanent building was being constructed, but bank personnel said negotiations with Lodge owners could not be worked out. “We decided in the end to just build the branch,” said Woody Nester, executive vice president of operations and project manager for the Floyd branch.
“I think it will work out much better,” added Geneva Cox, senior vice president and director of marketing.
Heath said FNB personnel had talked with advisory groups in the Floyd area and asked if they thought the temporary branch was a good idea. The response, he noted, was 50-50.
“Our plan to build our branch in Floyd County has never wavered,” he stated.
Heath acknowledged the start of construction has taken a little longer than had been projected. But, he noted, “at the end of the day, our branch will be built in Floyd County.”
A recent merger involving FNB has not affected plans for the branch, Heath assured.
“We’re as committed as ever,” he stated. “We’ve got some very good clients in Floyd and we feel like it’s a place we can grow and prosper.”
