Eight individuals will now stand trial in Circuit Court after being indicted Monday on charges ranging from forgery to child endangerment.
Meeting in secret, the seven grand jurors listened to evidence before deciding to send the cases to trial where a judge or jury will find the defendants guilty or not guilty.
Here’s the list from Monday’s session:
Kenneth W. Sargent, 45, of Bland was indicted on a Dec. 30, 2006, through Jan. 8, 2007, fraud charge related to two or more bad checks in a 90-day period. Janet Damewood of Woody’s convenience store in Rocky Gap took out the warrant. An April 28 court date has been set.
Rodney Belcher, 31, of Bland was indicted on three July 23, 2007, charges of failing to register with the Virginia State Police as a violent sex offender. His court date was set for April 28.
John Henry Thompson, 53, of Bland was indicted on a Dec. 23, 2006, distribution of a controlled substance or imitation controlled substance charge. His court date is April 14.
Wesley Howard Nelson Jr., 39, of Danville was indicted on Oct. 12, 2007, charges of distributing a controlled substance and distributing marijuana.
Ashlee Danielle Drummond, 22, of Bland was indicted on Oct. 25, 2007, charges of check forgery and grand larceny.
Ray Carter Straight, 26, of Athens, W.Va., was indicted on August and September 2007 charges of forgery (six counts) and uttering (seven counts). His court date is April 28.
Richard Steve Dye Jr., 31, of Honaker was indicted on three Oct. 2, 2007, charges of child endangerment. His court date is April 28.
Accused of stabbing her boyfriend during an argument, Elizabeth Ann Holtschneider, 27, of Bastian was indicted on a May 28, 2007, malicious wounding charge. Incarcerated since her May arrest, Holtschneider’s bond was set at $1,000 on Monday. She’s scheduled to enter a plea on June 9.
