Golf team places 14th

The Floyd County golf team finished 14th in their toughest competition ever, the McDonald’s Tournament of Champions, held at the Ridgefield Country Club in Kingsport, Tennessee Sunday and Monday.
Teams from as far as Florida and Arizona participated in top flight field. Edmond North, the three-time Oklahoma state champions, won the 36 hole event with a 22-under par 554.
Chandler-Hamilton, of Arizona, finished second.
The Buffaloes shot a 315 on the first day, then got a 311 on the second day on the mammoth 6900 yard course.
Jessica Hollandsworth shot a 74-72—146, which was the best round ever for a girl in the Tournament of Champions. Hollandsworth was the only girl in this year’s field.
Michael Wade, hampered by a cyst, shot a 84-76 to finish at 160. Matt Poff had an 80 round both days to also finish at 160.
Brian Cox had an 81-85 for 166 and Mitch Clark had a 80-83—163. Jacob Summers had an individual round of 90.
Will Kropp of Edmond shot a 65 round both days to finish as individual medalist at 130.
“It was a great experience for us,” said coach Skip Bishop. “We got to see a lot of great things, and it was also a good competitive experience for the team.”
