Golf team demolishes school record by posting a 284 round

The Floyd County golf team broke the school record with the best round in team history, shooting a 284 in a Three Rivers District meet at Auburn Hills in Riner Monday, August 13. The Buffs had come within one stroke and two strokes of the previous best 294 in the first two matches of the season.
Scores for the match were Floyd County 284, Giles 311, Radford 324, GTlenvar 361, Auburn 374, and Eastern Montgomery 451.
Jessica Hollandsworth was medalist, with a 63, nine strokes better than teammate Matt Poff, who had the second best round of the day at 72. Other scores for Floyd were Brian Cox 74, Michael Wade 77, Jacob Summers 77 and Mitch Clark 80.
Other team scores:
Giles (311): T. Carbaugh 76, M. Carbaugh 76, C. Friffith 77, B. Farmer 82, T. Myers 84, and C. Robertson 87.
Radford (324): Wojtera 75, Woods 77, Ruiz 85, Amy 87, Creson 87, and Shelor 95.
Glenvar (361): S. Obenshain 81, Z. Downs 87, C. Strickland 87, J. Hafey 106, B. Radford 114, and T. Montgomery 122.
Auburn (374): B. Jones 84, A. Dangerfield 88, H. Howell 91, B. Musick 111, D. Tawney 111, and A. Kenley 122.
Eastern Montgomery (451): Cerva 90, Leech 107, Linkous 120, and Wimmer 134.
The victories gave Floyd a 10-0 district record and a 12-0 record overall.
The Buffaloes remained undefeated with a win over the other five members of the Three Rivers District at the River Course at Radford on Thursday, August 16. The Buffaloes shot a 301, which was an outstanding round, but the highest of the season to date.
Is the early season magic over? Is Floyd in a slump?
Not really. Record high temperatures took a toll on all the teams.
“It was very hot,” said coach Skip Bishop. “It was so hot we had players with headaches.
“I told them if it got too bad to go back, but they hung in there. Just about everyone’s score was inflated.”
Other scores were Radford 333, Giles 337, Glenvar 376,  Auburn 383 and Eastern Montgomery 464.
Michael Wade was medalist with a 73. For the fourth match in a row, the Buffaloes had five players shoot under 80. No other golfers broke 80.
Jessica Hollandsworth had 74, Brian Cox had 76, Matt Poff had 78, Mitch Clark had 79 and Jacob Summers had 91.

Radford (333): Wojtera 82, Woods 82, Amy 84, Giesen 85, Ruiz 89, and Shelor 95.
Giles (337): Myers 81, T. Carbaugh 83, M. Carbaugh 84, Griffith 89, Farmer 99, and Atkins 100.
Glenvar (376): Obenshain 80, Howard 94, Peveral 98, Strickland 104, Hafey 117, and Montgomery 123.
Auburn (383): Jones 87, Dangerfield 89, Musick 100, Howell 107, Towney 121, and Jennings 125.
Eastern Montgomery (464): Cerva 96, Harvey 100, Linkous 110, Leech 128, and Wimmer 133.
