Girls get offense going

After a string of 1-0 games, the varsity softball team rediscovered an offensive game in district wins over Giles and Radford. Floyd County beat Giles 12-4 at Pearisburg Wednesday, April 30, and defeated Radford 9-2 at Floyd Friday, May 2.
At Giles the Buffaloes got things going in the third inning. Courtney Smith got a lead off single and advanced on a wild pitch. Alisha Gray and Alexis Roop also followed with singles and a fourth consecutive single by Amber Ingram helped stake Floyd to a 3-0 lead.
The Buffaloes had a 1-2-3 fourth inning and the Spartans rallied in their half of the frame. Danielle Bandy led off and reached on an error and Lindsey Meredith got a single.
Rachel Smith and Kathryn Stump reached on infield errors and after yet another error, Giles went ahead 4-3.
Floyd regained the lead for good in the fifth. Tempry Goff got a lead off double and Marissa Bowman and Ashley Slusher singled. A double by Kat Mills concluded the three run inning, and the Buffaloes led 6-4.
Jessie Hall, Goff and Roop scored in the sixth to make it 9-4. With two out in the seventh, Hall, Chelseah Link and Smith scored for the final margin.
Ingram picked up the win with seven strikeouts and no walks. All the Giles’ runs were unearned.

The Buffaloes used two big innings to subdue the Bobcats. Floyd went ahead in the first as Amber Ingram and Marissa Bowman scored for a 2-0 start.
The Bobcats got the first three batters on in the second and scored twice for a 2-2 tie.
Floyd went ahead for good in the fourth.Bowman, Ashley Slusher and Tempry Goff scored three consecutive runs and put Floyd on top 5-2.
In the fifth Alexis Roop, Bowman Slusher and Alisha Gray scored four consecutive runs for the final margin.
