George Wythe boys’ track team wins meet

The George Wythe boys’ team was first and the GW girls’ team finished second in a three-team track meet held last Wednesday (April 30) at George Wythe High School.
The GW boys’ team scored a total of 67 points. Holston was second with 48 and Northwood scored 41.
The girls’ division was won by Northwood with 94 points. George Wythe was second with 35 and Holston scored 21.
In a meet held on Friday, May 2, several GW athletes did well in the 30th annual Kingsport Times-News Relays. Will Sawyers and Tennis Simon took first places. Sawyers also won the Hal Miller award for the best male field event performance with a discus throw of 152-0 feet. Simon took first in the high jump by clearing 6-4.
Ethan Mills of GW placed sixth in the long jump, fourth in the triple jump and fourth in the 110 hurdles. Martha Walters was the only GW female athlete that competed, and she placed fifth in the high jump.
