Kim Fore said she was a pile of nerves waiting the in wings of a Hollywood studio last spring.
“I was the most nervous I have ever been,” she said. “I thought I was going to die before I was going to go on.”
Fore, 27, was waiting for her appearance on the reality TV show “Dance Machine.”
The show features contestants competing with freestyle dance to win $100,000. Fore is slated to appear July 11 at 8 p.m. The hour-long show airs on ABC.
The Glade Spring native and director of Xtreme Dance Company in Abingdon and Chilhowie said she’d only been that nervous once before - at a talent show as a kid. Then, though, she got so scared she never made it to stage. This time she made it.
Since that early talent show Fore has accomplished her dream of owning her own dance studio. She has performed overseas. And now she’s on television.
“I’ve performed in front of thousands of people but doing it on TV is something totally different,” she said. “There’s just so much riding on it.”
She said there was a lot of pressure during the filming of her episode because she worked so hard to be there.
She applied last October. Last-minute meetings in New York City and about a week in Hollywood filled her time between then and now.
Fore loves performing, she said. Communicating with the audience, making them feel. She also loves teaching and instilling confidence and hope in young dancers. Beyond all that, though, Fore said she just loves to dance.
“There’s nothing like being in this building by myself and just going,” she said. “It helps you grow.”
