Two of the three Wythe County varsity football teams will be home this Friday night.
Rural Retreat will celebrate its homecoming Friday against Glenvar. George Wythe will be home against Floyd County. Fort Chiswell is off. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Glenvar at Rural Retreat
Glenvar (1-0 overall) opened the season in somewhat unusual fashion by having open dates on its first two Friday nights. It will now play 10 Friday nights in a row.
The Highlanders opened up their ’08 campaign by defeating Parry McCluer 21-10 last Friday night.
Rural Retreat (1-2 overall) also opened up its season in a highly unusual way: it lost its first two games.
But the Indians bounced back rather nicely last Friday by defeating Grayson County.
After looking somewhat sluggish in their first two games, the Indians could be back on the road to playing their brand of football. They will need to put together another solid effort because Glenvar appears to be a good team.

Floyd County at George Wythe
After facing two quality opponents in its two games, George Wythe (0-2 overall) now goes up against a tough Floyd County (2-0 overall) team.
The Buffaloes beat Rural Retreat pretty easily two weeks ago and knocked off Group AA Patrick County last Friday.
The 0-2 start for George Wythe is just as uncommon as it was for Rural Retreat. In GW’s defense, however, Group AA Tazewell and Radford are two excellent teams. And the Maroons played well enough to win both of those games.
Somehow George Wythe is going to have to find a way to cut down on its mistakes and whip a first-rate team.
