The County Fair is bigger and better. “We have more vendors and exhibitors this year,” said chairman Dawn Barnes.
The Floyd County Harvest Festival and County Fair was created in 2006 as part of the county’s terquasquicentennial (175th anniversary). The name has been shortened from “Floyd County Homecoming and Harvest Festival, featuring the County Fair” to the current designation.
The festival is centered at the Recreation Park, with the county fair at the Paul C. Webb Youth Center nearby. Activities are also scheduled at the Jacksonville Center and the Floyd Country Store.
Due to space limitations, no parking will be available on site except for limited handicapped parking. Parking is available at the Courthouse, high school, and elementary schools, where a shuttle will run for fairgoers. Stops will also be made to pick up pedestrians.
Hours are from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is $2.00, under 12 free.
Among the music, games and activities:
The Floyd County High School Band, tractor parade, Mike Mitchell’s Floyd Music School students, Floyd Time Band, 4-H youth group, cork gun shooting gallery, ball toss, horseshoes, darts, Blue Mountain School cake walk, Floyd Community Wellness Center face painting.
“Another fun thing we’re having is the Ag Olympics,” Barnes said. “This is intended to be a fun event where competition is minimal and fun abounds.”
Teams of three, age nine and up (adults and youth may be on same team) will compete for points in four events:
Milk chugging (from new-washed calf bottles), hog calling (judges determine winners), cheese eating, and hay bale stacking.
