Clear autumn days, gorgeous sunsets, harvest moons, and chilly nights mean it must be October. They also mean it’s time for the 42nd Annual Floyd County Arts and Crafts Festival. The GFWC Floyd County Woman’s Club will sponsor the two-day event at Floyd County High School this weekend, October 4 - 5, from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p. m. on Sunday.
More than 180 vendors will display items which range from pretty pottery to plump, painted pumpkins. Wooden crafts, ceramics, jewelry, leather goods, baskets, dolls, clothing, decorative wreaths and flower arrangements and many other types of handiwork will be part of the show. Opportunities for finding unique items and decorations and doing some early holiday shopping will abound. In addition, local apples and cabbage along with homemade jams, jellies, pickles, honey and relishes can be purchased as treats for your family or as a gift for others.
The Floyd County 4-H Clubs will provide tasty food concessions in the high school cafeteria throughout the weekend. Other food vendors will be outside on the school grounds to accommodate hungry shoppers. There is no admission charge for the arts and crafts festival.
To avoid traffic congestion, the festival organizers suggest visitors park at one of the outlying parking lots and ride the shuttle bus which will run continuously throughout the day. Watch for directional signs to park in lots off Route 8 at Legacy Linens in the Industrial Park and the Floyd County Recreation Park, or parking is also allowed in the Courthouse parking lot in the town of Floyd.
For additional information about the festival, call 540 745-3117 or 540 789-7486.
