Back in February fly fisherman and conservationist Richard Formato of Wytheville and his friend Mike Pawlawski, host of the Outdoor Channel’s fly fishing show “Familiar Waters,” filmed an episode for the program on the South Fork of the Holston River at Tilley’s Bridge and Holston Mill.
“Mike was coming east to do a redfish show on the Carolina salt marsh flats and said maybe we could hook up to go to Smyth County and hook a couple of trout,” Formato said.
Pawlawski brought his production company, Pawlawski Sports Co., and the two anglers hooked and released more than a couple of trout in what became a round of friendly fishing competition that plays on-camera as easily as the two locations used in the filming.
Since the mill was used to make woolen Confederate uniforms, the episode is called “Fishing with the Ghosts of the Civil War.”
Formato said Monday the episode will air this weekend.
The Outdoor Channel’s Web site said air times are 1:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., and 9 p.m. Saturday.
