Elizabethton still tops in Appy League

Elizabethton stayed in solid control of the West Division of the Appalachian League on Monday, July 9 with an 18-0 thumping of Greeneville. The win put the Twins, with just two losses on the season, 7 1/2 games ahead of Kingsport in the division. In other Appy League baseball games Monday, Bluefield out-slugged Johnson City 11-9, Burlington bullied Kingsport 18-3 and Bristol bumped off Princeton 5-3.
Johnson City overtook Bluefield 10-4 on Tuesday while Bristol doubled up Princeton 10-5. Elizabethton dumped Greeneville 7-2 and Kingsport downed Burlington 5-3.
Wednesday was another good day for Elizabethton as the Twins routed Princeton 15-1 to take a commanding 9-game lead in its division. Bluefield disposed of Greeneville 13-3, Burlington went 13 innings before defeating Bristol 7-6 and Danville outlasted Johnson City 7-5.
Bluefield bumped off Greeneville 9-2 on Thursday. Elizabethton stayed hot by edging Princeton 5-4. Burlington got by Bristol 5-3 and Johnson City won a tight 4-3 contest over Danville.
Princeton won its third straight Mercer Cup game over Bluefield as the P-Rays beat the Orioles 5-2 last Friday. Kingsport blasted Bristol 8-1. Burlington zeroed in on Elizabethton 13-6 and Danville defeated Greeneville 4-2 in 10 innings.
Princeton took a huge edge in the 2007 Mercer Cup with a doubleheader victory over Bluefield by scores of 6-5 and 7-4. The twin wins gives the P-Rays a commanding 5-0 lead in the cup series this season. In other Saturday games, Kingsport continued its dominance over Bristol in a 10-4 win, Burlington doubled up Elizabethton 8-4 and Danville buried hapless Greeneville 11-2.
Bluefield bounced back Sunday with an 8-3 victory over Kingsport. Greeneville picked up a much needed 5-4 win over Princeton. Danville handed Elizabethton its third straight loss in a 3-1 game and Burlington breezed past Johnson City 8-2.
