Emory & Henry College inked a deal Tuesday with the University of Appalachia College of Pharmaceuticals that will give its students preferential admission to the university’s Doctor of Pharmacy program.

A press release said the agreement will give Emory & Henry students priority consideration for the accelerated three-year program. More than 950 have applied for the class of 65 students, the release said.

E&H President Dr. Rosalind Reichard said she was excited about the partnership.

“It means a lot to us and our students.“

University of Appalachia President Dr. Eleanor Cantrell said the deal served both schools’ best interests.

“I get this sense of kindred spirits in our missions. I look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship between the two institutions,“ she said.

Reichard said that one reason the agreement was made was due to the respective institutions’ commitment to serving their communities.

“We have a tremendous affinity for each other in terms of service to the community,“ she said.

While no students were present for the signing, Chemistry Department Chairwoman Laura Hainsworth said that many of the students were looking forward to the opportunity.

“I know several (students) who are already very interested and have been interested for some time,“ she said.
