CIVIC GROUPS/ SUPPORT GROUPS Post 9640 – Casey-Short VFW Post 9640 and VFW Honor Guard will meet at the Post Home behind the Shell Mart at Claypool Hill every 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. All interested persons are invited to attend.

The Grundy Composite Squadron - of the Civil Air Patrol meets every Monday at the SVCC campus in Grundy and at the Virginia National Guard Armory on Thursday of each week. Meeting times are 6:30 pm. Alcoholics Anonymous - Meet every Friday night at 8 p.m. at Belfast First United Methodist Church. Take Rt. 642 across from Belfast Quick Mart (formerly Bob’s Bar-BQue), church is .2 tenths of a mile on right. AA Step One – Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, Step One Group, will be held at Clinch Valley Medical Center, 8 p.m., Saturday nights, Classroom 2 in basement. We’re friends you have not met yet. Narcotics Anonymous – Narcotics Anonymous meeting every Monday at 8 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 107 Hill Creek Rd., Richlands. All Addicts/Alcoholics welcome. Heritage Quilt Show and Sale - There will be a quilt show and sale from Monday, June 25, through Wednesday, July 4, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day and on Sunday, July 1, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Wilderness Road Regional Museum, 5240 Wilderness Road, Newbern, VA. Marketwatch -Marketwatch, a local group that monitors the cattle and grain markets, will meet Wednesday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. (please not time change) at the Tazewell Extension Offi ce. The group studies current futures and cash markets, and considers “forward pricing” techniques. Virginia tech Extension Agent, Mike Harris, coordinates the program. Alzheimer’s Support Meeting – Families coping with Alzheimer’s disease are invited to attend a monthly meeting at the Appalachian Agency For Senior Citizens’ central office in the Wardell Industrial Park. Blood mobile -Marsh Regional Blood Center will be bringing the Blood Mobile back to the community on June 27. All blood types are needed and donors will receive a free t-shirt. Moore reunion -The Moore Family Association will hold its reunion July 7 at the Abb’s Valley United Methodist Church, 12 noon, with a covered dish lunch. Descendents of Capt. James Moore are invited to attend. Bring a dish or its equivalent. At 2 p.m. the Sons of the American Revolution will offer a commemoration of Capt. Moore’s service in the war with a stone memorial to be placed at his gravesite. Other interested parties are also invited to the service. College informational meeting—Lindsey Wilson College, now in partnership with Southwest Virginia Community College, will be holding an informational meeting in regard to its two degree programs to be offered at SwVCC on July 12, 6 p.m. in room 161 of Buchanan Hall. Information about the weekend formatted, live instruction Bachelor of Arts in Human Services, and Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling and Human Development will be provided. Pounding Mill reunion - Pounding Mill School Reunion will be held July 14 at 3 p.m. at the Pounding Mill Christian Church. Come and bring a covered dish and enjoy seeing old friends. This is our 11th year and Ada Hilt Hayes has attended most all. See you there.

S&S Picnic -Sat., July 14, the former employees of S&S Corp. will have their annual picnic at the Southwest Virginia Community College picnic shelter beginning at 3 p.m. Bring a covered dish and enjoy the fellowship with former friends. Pageant -2007 Tazewell County Fair Pageants scheduled Jr. Miss and Miss Tazewell County Fair will be held Aug. 4 at the Tazewell Middle School. The pageants are open to contestants from any area. The entry fee is $30. The Jr. Miss Queen will win a huge crown, trophy, custom banner and $50 cash. Miss Tazewell County Fair will win the same with the addition of a $1,000 College Scholarship. Local horror writer, J.C. Schweingrouber, will be in Richlands on Friday, July 6 for a book-signing at the Coffee Station located at 1500 Front Street (beside the post office).

The book signing will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will be followed by live music. Copies of his fi rst novel, “Legends and Landmarks, Volume I: The Night Walker,” will be available for purchase.

“The Night Walker,” set in a small suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio is also available on Amazon.com. Although local reviews of the book have not been conducted, many who have purchased the book have commented about how similar the fi ctional town is to Richlands.

“The Night Walker” is the first of a four-part series. “Volume II: Freedom’s Path” is expected to be released late summer or early fall. Author to sign books at Coffee Station 4340 or 276-988-1781. Auction -The Tazewell County Extension Offi ce is planning a 4-H Benefi t Auction Sun., Aug. 12, at the Tazewell County Fair Grounds. You can participate in the auction by contributing items for sale and attending the auction to bid. The proceeds will help offer 4-H programs. These programs will include but are not limited to 4-H camp, 4-H teen leader training, transportation of 4-H members, public speaking awards and 4-H club development.
