Closing the gap

Floyd County hasn’t beaten Auburn in volleyball for a long time. The Buffaloes fell short again last Thursday, but the margin between the teams is narrowing.
The Eagles swept the Buffaloes in three games at Floyd. But the match was a lot closer than the 3-0 final would indicate.
“I think we can beat them,” said coach Annette Hubbard. “I would rather beat them in the tournament than in the regular season.”
The Buffaloes may well get the chance. Floyd is hosting the Three Rivers District tournament in the new gymnasium for the first time next month.
Floyd led early in the first game and led late in the second two. Idaline Walker served the first point off a kill by Courtney Smith.
