Volunteers are needed to “chip in.” The Children’s Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) needs volunteers to provide transportation in Floyd County and the New River Valley.
Sue Farrar, of VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), said drivers are needed for a one-year program. “There are seven families in Floyd who do not have transportation.”
The drivers would provide transportation for children and their families for medical appointments or visits to social services. They would either drive agency vehicles, or provide their own vehicles and be reimbursed 40 cents per mile.
Potential volunteers must undergo criminal background checks, since they will work with families. There will also be some training involved.
Other jurisdictions in the New River Valley also need volunteer drivers. “There is no public transportation in Floyd, so this is important,” Farrar said.
The program is scheduled for one year. For information, call 745-2211.
