Buffs rally past EastMont

The varsity baseball team picked up its third district win, topping Eastern Montgomery 4-2 at Floyd Friday, May 9.
The Mustangs went ahead in the first inning, as an error, a ground out and a fielder’s choice put Eastern Montgomery ahead 1-0. Floyd went ahead in the bottom of the inning on a two out rally.
Luke Harris drew a walk and Brandon Marshall tripled to bring him in. Travis Bolt tripled to plate Marshall and the Buffaloes led 2-1.
The Mustangs got base runners in the next three innings but couldn’t pull even until the fifth. Henry Hall got a two out double and scored on a single by Fowler to tie the game 2-2.
Harris and Marshall led off the sixth with consecutive runs to put Floyd up 4-2. Eastern Montgomery had a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Earlier in the week the Buffaloes were edged by league-leading Glenvar 4-3 at Floyd Tuesday, May 6.
The Highlanders got a double and a single with two outs and went up 2-0. In the bottom of the inning Brian Ingram hit a one-out solo homer and Luke Harris followed with a triple. Travis Bolt got a two out triple to drive in Harris and tie the game 2-2.
Glenvar got another two-out run in the second on a pair of errors and went up 3-2. In the third inning, the Highlanders got the leadoff runner to third base, but Kaleb Gallimore threw him out on a grounder.
Glenvar got another runner to third and one to second but failed to get a run as Harris struck out the last batter.
Floyd tied the game in the fourth. Marshall got a leadoff single and advanced on a single by Bolt. Gallimore singled to drive in Marshall and tie the game 3-3.
The Highlanders got a run in the fifth after a leadoff single to go up 4-3. The Buffaloes had two baserunners, but failed to get a hit in the last three innings.
