Buffaloes beat Glenvar 34-6

The varsity football team opened the district half of the schedule with a 34-6 win at Glenvar Friday. The Highlanders had defeated the Buffaloes in the game at Floyd last year.
Glenvar took the opening kickoff but the Floyd defense stopped the series and forced a punt. The Buffs had a three and out and pointed.
Midway through the first quarter, Floyd started the first scoring drive at the 27. Luke Harris completed 29 yard pass to Kent Moles to get the ball across midfield. Then Harris hit Travis Bolt for 13 for another first down.
Harris and Bolt had back to back nine yard runs to get the ball to to the 13. Harris hit Bolt with a pass inside the five, and then Harris ran four yards for the touchdown. The PAT kick by Nathan Weiss made it 7-0 with seven seconds left in the first quarter.
The Floyd defense stuffed the Highlanders early in the second quarter and once again got the ball back on the 27 after a punt.
Harris went four yards on a draw and Moles ran nine yards to the 40. Harris hit Brett Holman with a short pass, but Holman fumbled and Glenvar had the ball at the Bufalo 44.
Once again the Floyd defense held and the Highlanders punted the ball into the end zone.
Floyd picked up two first downs before having to punt again. Good coverage on the punt stuck Glenvar at their own 17.
The Highlanders picked up one first down before having to punt again, giving the Buffaloes the ball a yard across midfield into Glenvar territory.
On the first play of the drive, Harris ran for 12 yards. Harris then hit Holman with an eight yard pass, then found Brandon Marshall with a 23 yard pass to the Highlander eight.
On the next play, Harris went eight yards on a cut back run and got the touchdown. Weiss’ PAT kick made it 14-0 with 38 seconds left in the half.
In the closing seconds of the half, Bolt intercepted a pass near midfield.
Floyd received the second half kickoff, and Chandler Jones ran it 18 yards to the 46. But the Highlanders intercepted the pass at the 46.
K.J. Ford ran 14 yards to the Floyd 40. But on fourth and one, Josh Penn stuffed Ford behind the line and the Buffaloes got the ball on downs at the 32.
Moles ran for ten yards and Harris hit Holman for 13 more. Harris had a 20 yard run to the 25 and Bolt carried for 14 more.
Moles ran 13 yards for the touchdown. The PAT kick by Weiss made it 21-0 at 6:52.
Glenvar covered a short kick at the 47. Floyd’s defense seemed to stop another drive, but out of punt formation, McGuire took the short snap and ran 26 yards to the 20.
On third and ten, Ford took an inside handoff and went 20 yards for the touchdown. The PAT kick hit the cross bar and fell short and Floyd led 21-6 at 4:28.
Floyd answered with a touchdown on the next possession. Harris had the key play with a 40 yard run up the right sideline.
On fourth and seven, Harris hit Bolt with a nine yard pass to the 19. Bolt ran for ten on the next play. Bolt then scored on a five yard run. The PAT kick by Weiss made it 28-6 with 26 seconds left in the third quarter.
Glenvar punted again early in the fourth quarter and Floyd got a short field at the Highlander 46. Harris hit Kaleb Gallimore with a 14 yard pass.
Moles picked up another first down on a four yard run. Then Harris hit Bolt with a pass at the goal line and Bolt got in the end zone for the score. The PAT kick was blocked and Floyd led 34-6 with 9:39 left in the game.
From there Floyd used reserves to end the game as the Buffs sandwiched a pair of scoreless possessions around a three and out by the Highlanders.
