That Derrike Keith kid is going pro! I’ve watched hm play and I’ve never seen as much pure football talent in my 16 years of life. When i have a son, I’m going to name him Derrike. Good luck this season Mr. Keith...the Touchdown Machine!

Buffaloes beat Fort Chiswell

The last time Floyd County played Fort Chiswell in football, the Buffaloes set a school scoring record. Not much has changed in six years.
The Buffaloes and Pioneers resumed their series, with Floyd beating Fort Chiswell 51-14 at Floyd Friday. Once the margin reached 35 points, officials kept the game clock running.
Fort Chiswell got the game’s opening possession and moved as far as the Buffalo 35. Travis Bolt got a sack on Pioneer quarterback Phillip Arnold and and incompletion brought up third and long.
Brett Holman intercepted an Arnold pass and returned it 60 yards. A penalty on the play moved the ball back to the Fort Chiswell 31.
A ten yard run by Bolt got one first down. Then on third and three, Kent Moles won a sprint to the left corner and went 13 yards for the touchdown. Nathan Weiss kicked the PAT and Floyd led 7-0 at 5:02.
The Pioneers answered immediately as Zack Cook took a short kickoff near the right sideline and returned it to the Buffalo three yard line. On fourth and goal, Arnold plowed in from the one. Kyle Mabry kicked the PAT and the game was tied 7-7 at 3:38.
The Buffs answered with a big kick return of their own. Moles took the ball at the 14, broke a tackle near the 15, cut back to the right and went for the touchdown.
“They had me wrapped up, but I kept my legs moving and got away,” Moles said. Weiss kicked the PAT and Floyd led 14-7 at 3:22.
Fort Chiswell ran two plays on the next series, then Ethan Griffith intercepted a pass in the middle of the field and ran 42 yards for a touchdown. The Weiss PAT kick made it 21-7 at the 2:20 mark.
In the closing seconds of the quarter the Buff defense made a stop and Holman returned the punt 21 yards to the 50. Holman caught an 18 yard pass from Luke Harris and Bolt ran for six as the first quarter ended.
Holman opened the second quarter with a 13 yard catch from Harris. Three plays later Bolt churned up the middle for a touchdown and Weiss’ PAT made it 28-7.
Fort Chiswell moved across midfield on the next possession, but a fourth down sack by Benji Allen turned the ball over on downs to Floyd.
Holman started the drive with another 13 yard pass from Harris. Two plays later, Harris hit Moles with a screen pass, and Moles got good downfield blocking and turned the play into a 36 yard touchdown. The PAT kick made it 25-7.
The Pioneers came back with their best drive of the night, picking up five first downs. Arnold hit Daniel Grubb with a six yard pass for the touchdown and Mabry kicked thte PAT to make it 25-14 with 18 seconds left in the half.
Floyd started the second half with Kaleb Gallimore returning a short kick to the 40. Floyd got a key first down on a Harris-to-Holman pass for 23 yards.
The Buffs drove to the one, and Harris took it in to the end zone from there. The PAT kick was blocked and Floyd led 41-14 at 7:45.
The Floyd defense held, and the Buffs started another drive from the 40. A 28 yard keeper by backup quarterback Brian Ingram moved the ball to the Pioneer 20.
Carries by Chandler Jones moved the ball to the five and Ingram hit Derrike Keith with a pass to the one. On the next play Jones went in for the touchdown. The PAT kick by Adam Arno made it 48-14 with :53 left in the third.
A 23 yard punt return by Christian Rodrigue to the Fort Chiswell set up the final score. Arno kicked a 27 yard field goal to make it 51-14 at 8:25.
