Loyd G. Bocock
Loyd George Bocock, 89, of Pearisburg, the White Gate community, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Highland Ridge Rehab Center.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 30, at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Blankenship and the Rev. Dewayne Martin officiating. Interment was in the Stinson Cemetery at White Gate.
He was born Dec. 8, 1918, son of the late Robert and Tennie Price Bocock. He was a member of the Bland Bible Church and was retired from the Celanese Corp. with 32 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Gusler Bocock; a sister, Etta Belle Bocock; and seven brothers, Robert Bocock, Taylor Bocock, Lacy Bocock, Tracy Bocock, John Bocock, Clyde Bocock and his twin, Floyd Bocock.
Survivors include a son, George Bocock and friend Mary Maskolunas of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Duane Billips of White Gate, Sue and Gary Woodyard of Goldsboro, N.C., Verna and David Brumfield of Salem; two brothers, Cloyd Bocock of Roanoke, James Bocock and wife Peggy of Radford; three sisters-in-law, Eva Bocock, Elaine Bocock and Geraldine Bocock of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Diana Billips of Ceres, Anthony Billips of Roanoke, Jennifer and Kevin Stevens of Pikesville, N.C., Katherine and Allen Pearson of North Carolina, Tyler Brumfield of Salem and Jeff Thompson of Radford; and three great-grandchildren, Emily Cassell, Benjamin Stevens and Sarah Elizabeth Stevens.
A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home in White Gate was in charge of the arrangements.
Edith P. Hounshell
Edith Pearl Hounshell, 80, of Bland died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Edgemont Center in Wytheville.
Funeral service was held Sunday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Highland Funeral Service Bland Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Long officiating. A graveside service was held Monday, Aug. 4, at 1 p.m. at the Hounshell Family cemetery.
She was born April 7, 1928, in Bland County, daughter of the late Charlie and Lillie Mae Peak Hounshell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Levi Hounshell; a son, Danny Wayne Hounshell; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Perry Davis of Wytheville; five grandchildren and their spouses, David and Shelley H. Saferight of Bland, Sheena Davis of Wytheville, Tina and Travis Morehead of Waynesboro, Brandon and Virginia Hounshell of Barren Springs, and Matthew Hounshell of Bland; five great-grandchildren, Luke Saferight, Leanddra Saferight, Lalney Saferight, Levi Saferight and Austin Hounshell; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
