I wonder if this could have came from Laurel Bed Lake? My sister sent me a picture last weekend of the lake that was being drained so that is fresh on my mind when I saw this story. I know it’s not too far from Saltville. Gets mighty cold around here though for an alligator to survive the winters but could it be possible?
Until 3 years ago, I lived 60 miles due south of Nashville, TN. for 17 years and there were a few small lakes that sustained 1 or 2 alligators, year round. Temperature averaged 8 to 12 degrees warmer there than in SW VA. Even started getting the armidillo’s from Mississippi move into the area. We called them “possum’s on the half shell.” Coyotes were everywhere in that area 20 years ago. I think milder winters are going to change this area even more.
