All-star games held this week

Floyd County is represented in the Virginia High School Coaches Association all-state games this week. Alan Cantrell is coach of the West squad in girls’ basketball.
This is the 37th annual all-state competition. All-star competition is scheduled in eight sports at venues in Hampton, VA.
Cantrell was the only Buffalo representative selected for this year’s games. He has one Region C player on the roster, Emily Doane of Chilhowie. Joining Cantrell on the coaching staff are Rebecca Tillett of Forest Park and Mike McGuire of Hidden Valley.
The basketball games for girls and for boys were scheduled Tuesday at Hampton Coliseum. Volleyball, girls’ soccer and boys’ soccer were set for Wednesday at Christopher Newport University.
Today (Thursday) softball is set at 11:00 a.m. and baseball at 2:00 p.m. at Christopher Newport University. The football game is tomorrow (Friday) at Darling Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
In the baseball all-star game, Region C is represented by coach Mike Worrell of Grayson County, and players Adam Bedsaul and Zack Jones of Grayson County, Caleb Dorton of James River.
In boys’ basketball, the coaching staff has Verl Brown of Galax and Mike Goad of James River. Players included Tennis Simon of George Wythe and Corey Ware of James River. Jared King of Pulaski County is son of former Buffalo Brenda King.
Boys’ soccer is represented by coach Greg Wade of Radford and player Nao Masuda of Radford.
In girls’ soccer, Lee Boehling of Radford is coaching. Players includLilli Benck and Desi Simmons of Radford.
The volleyball roster includes Mikeala Anders and Megan Funk of Grayson County. Softball includes coach Spike Harrison of Glenvar and players Kallie Cox and Abbie Rexrode of James River and Meredith Buckley and Kelly Knoebel of Glenvar.
