The town of Marion announced earlier this week that it will host the “official musical ambassador for the Tennessee National Guard,“ the Air Guard National Band, as the town’s event in celebration of the Song of the Mountains Festival and Smyth County Celebration.
The Air National Guard Band will perform live at the Lincoln Theatre in downtown Marion on Wednesday, June 25, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission to the show is free.
“We wanted to do something really special this year,“ said Marion Mayor David Helms. “The Song of the Mountains program and festival showcases local, regional and national bluegrass talent, and we felt it was a good idea for Marion to do our part to celebrate our country’s patriotism as part of the program.“
The Air National Guard Band will perform at “Marion Night” on Wednesday, part of a three-night kickoff to the weekend music festival. Rural Retreat, Chilhowie and Saltville are also planning musical celebrations for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The Song of the Mountains Festival, held at Davis Valley Winery near Groseclose, features a lineup of bluegrass music all weekend June 26 - 28.
